With Identity, Sylvain Mirouf presents a visual and fast-paced card magic routine in which one effect follows another, building up to a particularly surprising final revelation. Originally created in the 1990s and later adapted for television, this version has been designed with modern close-up magic in mind.
A card is selected and then lost in the deck. Four Jokers are then taken from your pocket and shown to the spectator. They appear to have a strange property: whenever one Joker changes direction or turns over, the other three instantly do the same.
The spectator freely names their card. Right before their eyes, the first Joker transforms into the selected card. Then the other three Jokers follow, each one transforming into exactly the same card. A highly visual succession of transformations.
Just when the spectator thinks they have seen everything, the routine continues. One card turns back into a Joker, and the four cards are once again shown as four perfectly identical Jokers. But when the deck is finally spread, one last anomaly appears: one card has a back bearing the word “Joker.” When you turn it over, the selected card is revealed.
Identity is designed to be easy for the audience to follow. The transformations are direct, the different phases flow naturally from one to the next, and the routine delivers several strong moments before the final revelation.
Created by Sylvain Mirouf and originally released in the 1990s, Identity has now been adapted to meet the demands of modern close-up magic, while preserving the spirit of the original routine.
